I began teaching languages in 1981 at the University of Manitoba, Canada. My method, while certainly not the most original, is based simply on my own personal experience with having learned so far four different languages: Spanish and French (in two Canadian universities) and Italian (my mother was also a teacher and would teach and correct my Italian as we spoke it at home in Canada).
There are no “fast-track” methods to learning a language (like ads one hears about in Italy: “Yes, you too can learn English in just one month”!). It takes a lot of time and patience. Also, there’s an added factor: as years go by, a person’s brain—and this has absolutely nothing to do with Alzheimer’s disease or senility—reduces by 5% every ten years (source: The Economist’s science section). It therefore becomes much more difficult learning English from scratch at 40 years of age compared at 10.
My fees are 25.00 euros for lessons at my place, 30.00 euros if I have to travel in the Udine area. I also do translations from Italian into English on a variety of subjects. The fee is 18.00 euros (net) per page.
